ADHD & Impulse Control Counseling in Sierra Vista
You may be intelligent, creative and capable, yet still feel unreliable to yourself. You understand what needs to be done, but starting, organizing, remembering, pausing or finishing does not happen consistently enough.
ADHD-related patterns and impulsive responses can create consequences far beyond a to-do list. They can affect trust, work performance, money, parenting, conflict and the way you see yourself.
Capable, but Inconsistent
Many adults arrive frustrated by the gap between what they can do and what they do repeatedly. They may perform exceptionally under urgency, then struggle with routine follow-through. They may make a quick promise, purchase, comment or decision and understand the cost only afterward.
Counseling helps replace the vague label 'I need more discipline' with a specific map of when the system works, when it breaks down and what support is actually needed.
When the Pattern Reaches Work & Relationships
Missed details, unfinished tasks and impulsive reactions can be interpreted as laziness, indifference or disrespect. The person struggling may feel chronically criticized, ashamed or defensive; partners and family members may feel overburdened or unable to rely on follow-through.
We address both the functional pattern and the relationship pattern around it. Accountability matters, and shame rarely creates the steadiness people are hoping for.
What We Work On
- Recognizing the conditions that improve or disrupt attention.
- Breaking large demands into visible, workable steps.
- Creating external structure instead of relying on memory and urgency.
- Building a pause between an impulse and a decision.
- Following through on commitments and repairing misses without defensiveness.
- Reducing the conflict cycle that develops around reminders, criticism and avoidance.
Emotional Regulation Matters Too
ADHD-related difficulties are not limited to attention. Frustration can rise quickly, criticism can feel overwhelming and repeated consequences can produce discouragement or shutdown.
The Stress Model helps identify triggers, activation and the response that follows. Better regulation makes planning, communication and impulse control more available in the moment they are needed.
What This Service Does - and Does Not - Provide
This is psychotherapy focused on behavioral, emotional and relationship patterns. It may support someone who already has an ADHD diagnosis or someone experiencing ADHD-like difficulties.
This practice does not provide medication management. A formal diagnostic evaluation may require a separate qualified evaluator. When diagnosis or medication is the primary need, we can discuss an appropriate referral.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need an ADHD diagnosis to begin counseling?
Not necessarily. Counseling can address attention, follow-through, impulsivity and related stress. If a formal diagnosis is needed for medication, accommodations or another purpose, a separate evaluation may be recommended.
Do you prescribe ADHD medication?
No. Attainable Family Solutions does not provide medication management. Therapy can complement medication care by addressing routines, emotional regulation, relationships and follow-through
Can counseling help with adult ADHD in relationships?
Yes. Counseling can address broken agreements, reminder-criticism cycles, defensiveness, unequal mental load and the difference between intention and reliable follow-through.
Is impulse control always caused by ADHD?
No. Impulsive behavior can have several causes and contexts. Therapy looks at the full pattern rather than assuming a single explanation.
Will you give me a rigid productivity system?
No single system works for everyone. We identify where your current process breaks down and build supports that fit your responsibilities, environment and way of functioning.
